Meet the Teacher
Ruth Shyu
Ruth is a graduate of Berklee College of Music (summa cum laude). She is well versed in classical and jazz piano. She began teaching piano professionally in 2001. Her students have won prizes and honorable mentions in MMTA's Judged Festival and Bay State Piano Contest, in MTAC's Sonata-Sonatina Festival and Winter Solo Festival, in NEPTA's Middle School Competition, and in Cerritos Yamaha Music School's Annual Competition. Her students have consistently garnered high marks on piano exams.
Ruth is a current member of MTAC, MTNA, and ASCAP. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Ruth takes the long view with her students. The primary goal of her teaching is to instill in them a deep, life-long love for music. To do this, she follows three basic principles: to provide motivating repertoire, to be non-compromising on building a firm foundation, and to be a caring mentor and coach for her students.
